Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is basically a reboot of the 2007 game with the same name, but with an entirely different story and set of ideas. The past Call of Duty games started to take it to the extremes, and they added a lot of futuristic stuff. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is more grounded in that respect, it makes the game feel a lot more appealing because you get to see real world problems and actions, although with a fictional take on them.
The story in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is designed to be dark and grim. There are some returning characters from the previous COD games, but at the same time, you also get to experience the game and many interesting challenges all the time. It goes to show that you can immerse yourself into that dark world and go with the team to complete various missions. The story structure is great, and there are some unforeseen moments as well as clichés. Still, it’s worth going through just because it’s a classic COD experience with some new stuff added to it.
What a lot of people want to see in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is a lot of new game modes. And the game certainly delivers. They did a very good job of adding new content to the point where there’s a whole bunch of stuff for you to enjoy here. It’s fun to see all that content because you know it’s going to be cherished and enjoyed, and you will just have a ton of fun with it no matter what might happen.
The gunfight is a great example of a new mode. Here you have 2v2 or even 1v1 battles on small scale maps. Here you really need to test your strategies and eliminate enemies as fast as you can. It’s very tricky and exciting at the same time, and you will cherish the experience in ways you would not imagine. Then you have large scale maps similar to what Battlefield has, where you can encounter tanks and many other ways to eliminate enemies.
The game also welcomes back killstreaks. That means if you’re good and don’t die, you can unlock some pretty powerful attacks that people will love and enjoy. That’s the great thing in the game, the fact that you always have something cool and different, and you really get to immerse yourself into the way to play to get them. Due to that, the game becomes a lot more strategic, and you’re not always willing to diet at any corner. You just want to become better and better, which is a good thing to have in COD.
When it comes to the gameplay itself, it’s not as fast paced as the other COD games that came previously. The time to kill is a bit longer, so you can still enjoy the experience and have fun with it. Of course, there are some tricky things and experiences, but at the end of the day, you just get to have fun with it and the results.
You still have Cyber Attack, modes with realism rule sets and Search and Destroy. Plus, the game has a dedicated set of cooperative missions that can be played with up to 3 other people. These are actually a lot of fun because they encourage you to cooperate with one another. Otherwise, you will end up dying in the game again and again.
Since there’s so much content, you might imagine that you will find it hard to get a game going for everything. But apparently, the game is super popular on just about all game modes. The old game modes are added into a quickplay system, and you can choose what modes you want to play again and again. Other, newer modes are seen separately. That makes it easier for players to choose when to play and how to play the game, which is really exciting.
There are microtransactions, and there’s even a battle pass added in the game. But Call of Duty: Modern Warfare does a good job of not making the game pay to win. The micros are mostly coming in the form of visuals. Which is great, because you get to customize your characters with cool visuals if you want. Or you can just ignore the visuals and enjoy the game the way it is. That’s great for a game like this because otherwise, it would be a microtransaction mess, and you really want to avoid that.
As always, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has top notch graphics. Everything looks extraordinary, and there’s a lot of detail on all the maps, even the super large ones. There’s definitely a lot of attention to detail put into every location, and the experience itself is very immersive. It just goes to show how massive the game really is. That being said, there are some great cutscenes in the title too, so you will be quite amazed at how everything looks.
Should you play Call of Duty: Modern Warfare?
There’s a lot of content in the game, and no matter if you want a large scale war or a more personal, strategic gameplay, you will get it here. The game itself is rewarding and fun, it always strives to push the boundaries, and it becomes very good too. Plus, the best part is that you have numerous operators in the game.
They tend to have their own charisma and dialog, and they encourage you to try out a variety of new things. Plus, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare also has some field supplies and small strategic tools that you can use as you play. It’s a very interesting way to enjoy the game, and there’s always something new to unlock for your weapons too.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare itself is designed to be full of unlocks, and it has a great progression system, so you will find it exciting to play and really immersive at the same time. You do want to test it out yourself and see how far you can go!
