In Dragon Ball Z, fans met the charismatic Ginyu Force when they initially arrived on Namek in the “Hidden Power” episode of the Namek Saga. The group roster in the anime was Guldo, Recoome, Burter, Jeice, and Captain Ginyu.
Goku dispatched the majority of the gang over a little arc in the saga– slowly destroying the stability of their group postures. According to some early DLC for Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot— opened early by pre-ordering the game– the Ginyu force utilized to have an even more sophisticated posture with their newly exposed 6th member, Bonyu.
Who is Bonyu, and why did she leave the Ginyu Force?
Bonyu was the only woman fighter in the Ginyu force. She’s a stout member of the Brench-seijin race– the very same species as fellow Ginyu squad mate, Jeice. Bonyu was the very first member of the Ginyu force, personally hired by Captain Ginyu. It was Bonyu’s task to search the universe for other strong fighters to sign up with the group.
Bonyu’s exit from the Ginyu Force had nothing to do with her power level, as Ginyu fired Bonyu for group synergy factors. Bonyu’s entry in Kakarot‘s Z Encyclopedia checks out:
Though she was an incredibly adept person, she lacked the charm and special presents Captain Ginyu needed of his subordinates, and therefore was eased of her duties and gotten rid of from the force.
Sadly, the Bonyu players fulfill in game is only a simulation, and does not reveal much else about her backstory.
How does she factor into Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot?
Bonyu gets in Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot in between the Frieza and Cell legends. She uploads the data to the computer and offers Goku and friends the possibility to spar against a digital Bonyu.
In fight, Bonyu uses comparable beam attacks to many other bad guys in the video game. Bonyu fires out orbs that blast lasers at her opponents, and can frame herself in a prism shield for security.
Gamers can combat Bonyu at level 45, 75, and 100 for in-game benefits.
It’s not clear if we will ever see Bonyu appear in other Dragon Ball Z fiction. We hardly know anything about her now, however it’s possible we could find out more if Dragon Ball Super ever returns, or in another computer game.
