With Paramount Pictures setting a release date of April 8, 2022 for Sonic the Hedgehog 2, director Jeff Fowler has confirmed filming has begun in the sequel to last year’s live-action / CG animated video game adaptation.

While plot details are currently being kept a secret, we do know that Ben Schwartz’s Sonic and Jim Carrey’s Dr Robotnik will collide again in the sequel. Although James Marsden has previously stated that he’s already signed up to play Tom Wachowski for multiple sequels – indicating his future with the franchise likely remains. Tika Sumpter, who played Maddie Wachowski in the first movie, will also return.

However, it seems that Sonic may not be the only hero to appear in the sequel, as not only was Tails featured in the closing moments of the original film, but rumors have also spread that Aquarius star Jason Momoa has been approached to speak out Knuckles.
