Archie Comics has announced that it will celebrate Archie Andrews 80 years in June with the release of Everything is Archie, a new one-shot from writer Fred Van Lente and artist Dan Parent that tells a whole new story in the traditional Archie Comics style.
“You can always tell a great franchise because it updates quickly and easily for each era, and taking Archie, Betty, Veronica, Reggie and Jughead into our world of social media madness and real anxiety was… pretty effortless,” said Van Lente, who makes his Archie Comics debut with the one-shot. “Turns out the Riverdale gang is your perfect guide to modern life, even if they can’t figure it out on their own half the time!”
“I’ve been an Archie fan since I discovered a box full of their iconic titles in my grandfather’s attic many, many summers ago.” continued Van Lente. “Doing something, Archie is not on the bucket list for me, and it is a great honor to do a special series for his 80th birthday and it was a lot of fun. It is equally exciting to work with Dan Parent, of whom I have been a huge fan for years. In my humble opinion, he’s the Archie artist currently at work, and his pencils fit our story perfectly, which takes all the characters you know and love and takes them very far into 2021, while still being keep their classic taste. “
“I’ve been reading Archie Comics for over 50 years and this will be my 35th year working for Archie,” added artist Dan Parent. “So I’m a fan first and then the creator second, and it’s so great to be a part of Archie Comics history! It is a pleasure to work with my friends, Bob Smith and Glenn Whitmore, and to work with Fred, who I have never had the pleasure of working with before, but I am very happy to have such fun, classic story. I am very happy to bring this new classic book to our fans in honor of Archie Comics’ 80th anniversary! “
