An animated adaptation of Dave Cook and Craig Paton’s indie cyberpunk comic book series Killtopia is in the works and marks the debut project of Voltaku, a new hybrid studio focusing on virtual production and game engines.
Killtopia follows a bounty hunter and his robot sidekick through a futuristic mega-city as they battle brutal villains, fortified mercenaries and android assassins in a race to save the bounty hunter’s sister – and the world – from a deadly nanopest.
The series is written by Phil Gelatt (Love, death and robots), with Oscar nominated director Ruairi Robinson (the last days on Marshelmets, and will consist of eight 20-minute episodes, each fully developed with Unreal Engine.
“Game engines give studios a flexibility we’ve never seen before,” said Charles Borland, Voltaku’s CEO and Co-Founder. “If we choose a project, it no longer has to stop with a film or TV series. We can use our 3D production tools and build a game, VR / AR experiences, marketing collateral, digital goods, basically anything we want The lionking or Avatar-like production levels. And that’s exactly what ‘otaku’ is looking for – more ways to connect with the worlds they love. “
