GoCycle has launched its next generation of folding electric bicycles. Founded by a former McLaren designer, the British brand has won a number of awards since launching in April 2009. With the latest generation of bikes, GoCycle has created a new electric motor, carbon fiber frame and fork, MotoGP inspired tires and a USB port integrated into the frame, so you can charge your AirPods or smartphone with the bike’s battery when you are not at home.

The fourth generation of GoCycle comes in three favors, the Gocycle G4, G4i and the flagship Gocycle G4i / +. The new series starts from € 3,399 and a maximum of € 4,999.

The main difference between models is in the life and weight of the battery. While the GoCycle G4 has a range of 40 miles between battery charges, the G4i and G4i + can join you on a 50 mile ride without a plug in sight. Unlike previous GoCycle models, fast charging is now standard on every fourth generation model. GoCycle G4i and G4i + can now be fully charged within three and a half hours (G4 is three hours) thanks to the 4A 36V charger.

As before, you can charge the battery in the frame or – if you don’t have a plug in your garage – you can eject the battery to charge it in another room.

If your commute involves a lot of stairs and you fold and lug your bike every day, you might want to opt for the G4i +. That’s because it weighs 16.3 kg (36 lbs) compared to 16.6 kg (37 lbs) for the G4 and G4i. According to GoCycle, the G4 range is “one of the lightest premium electric folding bikes on the market”. To do this, the British brand has completely shaved the weight of every part – even the disc rotors are lighter, despite being larger for better braking performance compared to the previous generation.

What all three new GoCycle models have in common is the new specially designed electric motor “G4drive”. According to the company, the new electric motor is designed to be quieter while still delivering more torque, more power and cranking power at low speeds. GoCycle says its own G4drive and gearbox have been in development for a number of years and have been subjected to many, many miles of testing at its research and development facility.

The G4i and G4i + both have automatic shifting, so you don’t have to worry about falling down when you get near an intersection or a particularly tricky hill.

Typically, the G4drive will judge how much power you need from the motor based on the amount of effort detected in the pedals. If you’re struggling to turn the pedals, GoCycle will help you ride up a hill, but if you’re already driving, you won’t see that much battery power. However, there is also a manual power boost if you really want to fly from a standing start at an intersection (or race a friend on a manual bike). As with all UK electric bikes, the motor is limited to 25 km / h.

Another new addition to these new electric bikes are the redesigned tires. According to GoCycle, the MotoGP-inspired tread tire is infused with a silica compound for superior grip and stable handling. Compared to the company’s previous e-bikes, the new tires have a wider design and greater air volume that promise a comfortable ride over urban surfaces.

Speaking of the fourth generation, GoCycle designer and founder Richard Thorpe said, “G4 has been in development for many years and represents the most significant product update for GoCycle since our G1 to G2 engineering program. Our generation four models have been developed through a combination of listening to our customers and our ongoing mission to develop the best electric city bikes in the world. G4 will not only set a new standard for GoCycle, but also a new standard of performance for all our competitors in the portable electric bike segment. “

“What I’m most excited about is our future roadmap and the potential for GoCycle to keep innovating faster than our competitors. At GoCycle we cook with different ingredients, allowing us to redefine what an e-bike can be and do. G4 is very exciting for us and provides a platform that will support even more important developments in our pipeline in the coming years! “

Anyone who buys a fourth-generation model of GoCycle can use the redesigned smartphone app, which allows you to adjust settings for the bike. It also reports interesting health stats such as calories burned, maximum and average pedal power for each ride. The connection to the app has been improved with the addition of Low Energy Bluetooth.

The GoCycle G4, G4i and G4i + are available for pre-order starting today, with the models shipping later this year.
