Tobey Maguire Spider-Man 4 directed by Sam Raimi ‘in consideration after Doctor Strange 2’

This Christmas will be released on Spider-Man: No Way Home, starring Tom Holland’s Web-Slinger and Benedict Cumberbatch’s Sorcerer Supreme. It is rumored that both former Sony Spider-Man stars Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield will appear in the film as the MCU begins to explore alternate realities. While just three months later, the original Spider-Man trilogy director Sam Raimi will hit theaters with his Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Additionally, FandomWire has previously reported that Maguire will play a role in Doctor Strange 2, reuniting the star with Raimi.

This would make a lot of sense when you consider that the Sorcerer Supreme is accompanying Peter Parker of the Netherlands in Spider-Man: No Way Home.

But now, the latest report from Giant Freakin Robot’s insider sources is that Sony is considering a Spider-Man 4 directed by Raimi and starring Maguire.

Such a film is said to be a spin-off from the events of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

The outlet clarified that their source says neither Maguire nor Raimi have been signed up for such a project.

But just the fact that it’s reportedly being considered in the studio is very exciting, especially for fans of the original Spider-Man trilogy.

The duo’s planned Spider-Man 4 was ditched after all, and Sony went for a reboot starring Garfield as Peter Parker in 2012’s The Amazing Spider-Man.

Nonetheless, the fourth Raimi movie had a May 2011 release date, a script, and both director and Maguire on board to return.

Why Spider-Man 4 didn’t come into existence, Raimi said Vulture in 2013: “It was truly the most amicable and undramatic divorce.

“It was just that we had a deadline and I couldn’t make the story work at a level that I wanted it to work.”

The director admitted that he was very unhappy with Spider-Man 3.

He said, “I wanted Spider-Man 4 to end on a very high note, the best Spider-Man of them all.”

Raimi continued: “But my own shortcomings prevented me from getting the script together in time.

“And I said to Sony, ‘I don’t want to make a movie that isn’t great, so I think we shouldn’t take this picture. Continue with your reboot, which you were planning on anyway. ‘

“And [former Sony co-chairman] Amy Pascal said, “Thank you. Thank you for not wasting the studio’s money, and I appreciate your candor. So we left on the best terms, and we both tried to do the best for fans, the reputation of Spider-Man and Sony Studios. “

Nevertheless, with rumors of Raimi and Maguire reuniting on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, they might be able to make their Spider-Man 4 after all.

Spider-Man: No Way Home will also see the return of previous Sony villains from the Maguire and Garfield films.

Alfred Molina reprises his Doctor Octopus from Spider-Man 2 and Jamie Foxx is back as Electro from The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

Also rumors are Green Goblin from Willem Dafoe and Sandman from Thomas Haden Church.

Spider-Man: No Way Home will open in theaters on December 17, 2021, and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will follow on March 25, 2022.
