It won’t be long before you can play GTA 5 on Android phones thanks to Microsoft’s latest deal with Rockstar Games.

Having launched on a number of different platforms and currently in development for PS5 and Xbox Series X, fans may never have thought that Grand Theft Auto 5 would hit mobile phones.

While smartphones are getting more and more powerful, there’s never been a hint from Rockstar that they were interested in making such a project work.

And thanks to Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, gamers don’t have to wait long for such a port.

It was announced this week that GTA 5 and GTA Online are returning to Xbox Game Pass.

But the big difference between this and an earlier launch is that GTA 5 Online will be available on consoles and Xbox Cloud.

This means Grand Theft Auto can be played on Xbox consoles and Android phones, thanks to Xbox Cloud Gaming.

And the best part is that gamers don’t have to wait long before they can avoid the download and answer their phone to do the latest heist.

According to Microsoft’s announcement, GTA 5 is coming to Android phones on Thursday, April 8.

And it’s not the only game coming to the Project xCloud service this month, with Zombie Army 4, Disneyland Adventures, and Rush: A Disney / Pixar Adventure also confirmed.

Later in the month, gamers will be able to play Rain on Your Parade and MLB The Show 21.

To play GTA 5 on Android phones, you need an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription and the Xbox Game Pass app downloaded on your phone.

Gamers will also want to make sure they have a compatible controller that they can use with GTA 5 on their smartphone as it probably won’t be possible to use a touchscreen.

It should also be noted that your download speeds should be decent to avoid excessive lag issues.

And, as with all new technology, things may not work as well as they do on consoles.

Xbox Game Pass for Mobile is available in all regions where Game Pass is sold, but cloud gaming is currently only supported in the following regions:

Austria, Belgium, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Spain, South Korea, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, United States

More information about Xbox Cloud Gaming can be found here, courtesy of Microsoft:

“If you close the app from the Android app selector or leave the app in the background, your session will end in 15 minutes.

If you choose to quit the session from the in-app menus, your session will be terminated immediately.

Your progress in the game is handled by the game itself (auto save, manual save, etc.), so if you stop or time out the session, it means that any unsaved game progress at that point will be lost.

“Cloud gaming is currently not supported on iOS devices. While cloud gaming as part of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate may work on devices with modified, alternate, or emulated versions of Android OS, those systems are still being evaluated and players may experience an unexpected or diminished gaming experience. “
