Last month it was announced that actor Michael B. Jordan will make his directorial debut with it Creed III, the third installment in the Creed franchise, however, there was no news as to whether Sylvester Stallone would return to the Rocky spin-off series.
Now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, a representative for Stallone’s has confirmed that the 74-year-old actor will not reprise his role as Rocky Balboa in the next episode of the Rocky spin-off series. There is no explanation as to why Stallone will not return to the franchise or how the central character of the movie will be written.
Stallone’s Balboa coached Michael B. Jordan’s Adonis Creed, the son of his late rival, Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers) in both episodes, in which Stallone won a Golden Globe and earned an Oscar nomination for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting role for 2015 Creed
While Stallone seems to be sitting Creed III, he has confirmed that he is still working on his plan Rocky prequel TV series with a recent post on Instagram teasing his treatment for the project:
Creed III is directed by Michael B. Jordan from a script written by Zach Baylin and Keenan Coogler, brother of the director of the first Creed film, Ryan Coogler. In the film, Jordan will reprise the role of Adonis Creed alongside returning Tessa Thompson and Phylicia Rashad. It is currently scheduled for a Thanksgiving 2022 release.
