Following on from last year Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn), the DC Extended Universe will return to R-rated territory in August with The suicide squad, and if the reaction to the red band’s first trailer is any indication, it seems fans have a healthy appetite for what director James Gunn has come up with for Task Force X.

By posting to Twitter, Gunn revealed that the trailer for The Suicide Squad had more than 150 million views worldwide in its first week, setting a new record for the most views for a red belt trailer (which is another upcoming release of Warner surpasses, Mortal Kombat, which broke the previous record set itself in February).

Welcome to Hell – aka Belle Reve, the highest death rate prison in the US of A. Where the worst supervillains are held and where they do everything they can to get out – even participate in the super-secret, super-shady task Force X. Today’s do-or-die task? Collect a collection of cons including Bloodsport, Peacemaker, Captain Boomerang, Ratcatcher 2, Savant, King Shark, Blackguard, Javelin and everyone’s favorite psycho, Harley Quinn. Then arm them heavily and (literally) drop them on the remote enemy-drenched island of Corto Maltese. Trekking through a jungle full of militant opponents and guerrilla troops at every turn, the squad is on a search-and-destruction mission with only Colonel Rick Flag on the ground to get them carried … and Amanda Waller’s government engineers to their ears, shouting their every move. And as always, one wrong move and they are dead (either by their opponents, a teammate or Waller himself). When someone makes bets, the smart money is against them – all of them.

The suicide squad sees James Gunn directing a cast with Suicide Squad returns Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Jai Courtney (Captain Boomerang), Joel Kinnaman (Rick Flag) and Viola Davis (Amanda Waller) as well as new DCEU additions Idris Elba, Peter Capaldi, Alice Braga, Nathan Fillion, Taika Waititi, Jennifer Holland , David Dastmalchian, Joaquín Cosío, Mayling Ng, Flula Borg, Juan Diego Botto, Storm Reid, John Cena, Pete Davidson, Tinashe Kajese, Daniela Melchior, Julio Ruiz, Steve Agee, Michael Rooker, Sean Gunn and Sylvester Stallone.
