Even though the Pyromancer in Outriders plays more like Zuko than Iroh, the class may still be one of the game’s slower, more thoughtful playstyles. While the Trickster will appear all over the battlefield and the Devastator will literally throw itself on bullets, the Pyro will pick targets, hang back and deal unyielding fire damage.

But finding the right balance between patience and violence can be difficult, so this guide will break down everything you need to know about the Pyromancer class to help you set Enoch on fire.

How to be a pyromancer

Outriders don’t have the same class breakdowns you’d expect from other shooters, but the Pyromancer fits the DPS archetype more or less comfortably. You get healing for killing enemies marked by your fire, so you can more or less choose your range. Still, because of your different skills and the way the classes work, you probably want to be middle class, stay out of the most dangerous territory, but still set them on fire.

The Pyromancer should be the team’s shot caller. Thanks to their abilities that often mark and weaken enemies, you’ll want to organize your friends to attack the elites or deep-seated enemies as you begin to unleash your powers.

A Pyromancer’s potential weakness comes from the same field, as you need to keep up with the battlefield so that other classes can more easily adapt to the changing landscape. Make sure you have an idea of ​​where the biggest enemies are and how close you are to the action. You will have to learn to line up your attacks to be more effective, while always having an escape route in mind when the fight comes to you.

The best pyromancer skills

There are plenty of abilities to choose from as you begin ranking your Pyromancer, all of which deal damage in one way or another. You should probably experiment with all the experiments as they can be more powerful and interesting than you would expect from the description. That said, these are the three skills we would recommend for having a balanced, powerful Pyromancer.

Thermal bomb (explosive) Select an enemy to burn, interrupt and deal damage. If killed while still being hit by the ability, the enemy will explode and deal damage in a wide radius.

Overheated (Explosive) Deals a little damage to all enemies in a wide radius and interrupts their abilities. Enemies hit by Burn take extra damage and the Burn is consumed.

Eruption (Explosive) Create a volcanic eruption under the selected enemy, dealing damage to them and all enemies within a small radius of the target.

The Thermal bomb skill is the last of the original skills you unlock, but once you have it it’s hard to give up. This skill scales enormously with teammates’ coordination. With a little practice, you can use it in very creative ways. The hiatus means you can use it against elites and give everyone a chance to wail about them. Or you can target any crowd near an elite and detonate them for splash damage.

Overheated is a skill more suitable for clearing out enemies or when the situation gets a little desperate. It doesn’t deal much damage on its own, but can disrupt an enemy’s attack building and let you escape to a safe distance. Used with enemies or abilities that cause burns, Overheat becomes really deadly and can be used to clear areas much more effectively.

Eruption is another ability used to summon shoots and signal attacks. It’s incredibly powerful, and with some extra firepower from your items, it can quickly wipe out the enemies it spawns under. This is a great opening salvo for a tough elite who can launch an attack from a Trickster or other teammate to make sure you don’t get all the attention.

The Pyromancer Tools of the Trade

With no movement or shielding ability, you don’t want to be at the very front of the fight. But since your skills require you to be closer than a sniper, you need to be more involved than the Technomancer. A Pyromancer should try to be in the middle of range of the enemies, but be constantly prepared to move as the front line shifts.

For this we recommend using an assault rifle and rifle for optimal damage. Watch out for a powerful revolver to take over when the enemies start swarming you, but you don’t have to give up one of the main weapon slots to face the worst scenario.

For the assault rifle (and revolver), we highly recommend using the Burning bullets mod equipped as soon as possible. This can be stacked with you Overheated skill and feel thematically appropriate. Life supply or Soul Eater can really help keep your health up as your skills cool down too, and you want to make sure the assault rifle life leech also.

Your rifle will be used when you get a little further back, so hopefully you don’t have to worry too much about the healing factor of the weapon. Instead, look for additional malicious mods like the Bone shrapnel or CrematoriumThis includes the effect damage area, so one bullet can damage multiple enemies. Death chains and Stiffening can be good alternatives as they can slow down the enemy approaching your position or facilitate your escape.

If your party is experts in communication and strategy, you may want to consider having one weapon equipped with the Vulnerability Bullets mod. This can be used in conjunction with your ability to launch an attack where anyone can do even more damage and be extremely effective against bosses and elites, but you need backup to use effectively.

For the Pyromancer’s armor, you’ll want to consider increasing your anomaly and firepower as a priority. It’s not your job to catch the bullets, so your actual armor and health will be minor.

There are so many mods to choose from as a Pyromancer, so make sure to take a look at what you’re dismantling from time to time so you can better reflect how you’re playing. We recommend looking for Twice as hot and Bullet kindling as these work extremely well with your skills.
