Idris Elba has been one of the bookies’ favorites for the next James Bond after Daniel Craig in recent years. The Suicide Squad star was recently interviewed by Robert Bruce, who pointed out how even Stormzy had hinted that he would become the first black Bond.
Idris made a cameo in the rapper’s Vossi Bop music video, featuring Stormzy’s lyrics, including, “When I’m James Bond, tryna live my movie like I’m Idris.”
Bruce asked the actor, “Mr. Idris Elba, including yourself, what is happening now?
“I hear people talking about a Luther movie, I see some men drop James Bond in their lyrics too… Tell me something! Tell me something!”
The 48-year-old replied, “No such thing, man. No, listen, there is definitely a Luther movie coming up. I am very enthusiastic about that. ”

Idris added, “You know, it’s – for the fans who watched five seasons of Luther – you know, I owe it to them to take it to the next level and that’s where a movie comes in. look.”
After tackling a possible Luther movie, the star moved on to those 007 rumors.
He said, “And I know the rumors about Bond have always haunted me and to a …
‘Listen my mother, my poor mother, she says,’ One day you will have it! Don’t mind them! Don’t mind them! ‘I’m like,’ Oh [laughs] Mom, it’s okay man, I’m fine, I’ve got Luther! ”
Idris continued, “But I sure do [Luther]You know, The Suicide Squad is out this year; that’s a great look, you know, I’m really excited about that.
Shout out to James Gunn, who led that and that entire team. And then look, man, I’m definitely doing more music.”
While the star may be reluctant to ever play Bond, his mom’s enthusiasm might push him into seeking an audition.
Regardless, Idris has stiff competition, with Bridgerton star Regé-Jean Page recently overtaking Tom Hardy and James Norton.
Page’s sudden rise to the top came after it was announced that he would not be returning for the second season of Netflix’s hit period drama.
