Ahead of the Resident Evil Village showcase scheduled for later in the day, Game Informer Posted an exclusive reveal about the survival game’s upgrade and hunt mechanics.

While most of the footage revealed so far was centered on Lady Dimitrescu’s castle, the game’s title clearly suggests that we can explore the surrounding village as well, which is where players will find various animals such as chickens, fish, pigs and goats. . Hunting this will give you certain resources that can then be cooked by The Duke, the trader non-player (NPC) character in Resident Evil Village.

For example, in the video below, we see a Bird and Beast Pilaf dish made from poultry and meat. Creating it will permanently reduce the damage Ethan takes while guarding. Other recipes shown include Herbed Fish, Three-Flavored Mititei, Tochitura de Pui, Ciorba de Porc, and Sarmale de Peste. Be careful though, as some of these animals, such as goats and pigs, can fight back.

Ethan can also upgrade his weapons with the help of The Duke. To do this, he must collect treasures and valuables that the trader will exchange for lei, the in-game currency. With enough lei, Ethan can expand his inventory, improve the strength of his weapons, rate of fire, reload speed and ammo capacity, craft ammo, first aid kits, pipe bombs and mines, among other things.

Resident Evil Village launches May 7 on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S | X. A demo should be available on all platforms before the release date.
