However, the first meeting of the couple is believed to have occurred years earlier.
During the Royal Family’s trip to the US in 1965, Margaret attended a Beverly Hills dinner hosted by her boyfriend American socialite Sharman Douglas – Taylor and her then-husband Richard Burton, from whom she eventually divorced twice, also stood up. the guest list.

But they were disappointed to discover that “the evening’s host had not sat them at the primary table with Princess Margaret and Lord Snowdon,” but “next to the kitchen.”
A friend of Margaret recalled: “[This] did not sit well with Elizabeth and Richard.

At the same party, the Queen’s younger sister caused a stir when she told actress Grace Kelly that she didn’t “look like a movie star” and asked actress Judy Garland to perform on the spot through an assistant.
Still, Taylor’s biographer Kitty Kelley claimed that the Hollywood couple often tried to woo Margaret and her husband in the hope that the Queen would award Burton a knighthood, since he was born in Wales.
In 1967, Taylor and Burton even invited Margaret and Lord Snowdon to the London premiere of their film, The Taming of the Shrew.
However, the honor never materialized.
