Starz has announced that it has placed an eight-episode serial order on Shining Vale, a new horror comedy series that will see Friends and Scream star Courteney Cox leads a cast that also includes Greg Kinnear, Mira Sorvino, Merrin Dungey, Gus Birney and Dylan Gage.
According to THR, Shining Vale Cox will see Patricia play “Pat” Phelps, a reformed wild child who became famous for writing a raunchy drug and alcohol-fueled “female empowerment” novel. Seventeen years later, she is sober but unfulfilled, has not written a second novel, and her marriage and family are in dire straits. So, in a last-ditch effort to save her marriage, she moves her family from the city to an old suburban house with a storied past – and discovers that her personal demons may well be real.
Shining Vale is a clever, chilling and funny series that tells the story of a confused family suddenly living with a psychic who helps Courteney Cox’s character to regain her groove as she begins to question her own sanity, says Christina Davis, president of programming at Starz. “This group of talented actors, executive producers and directors brilliantly blends comedy and horror in this series, exemplifying the network’s commitment to enhancing female representation on and off the screen.”
Jeff Astrof (Trial & Error) has written the pilot for Shining Vale, after he collaborated with Sharon Horgan (Catastrophe), while Dearbhla Walsh (The Handmaid’s Tale) targeted. All three will serve as executive producers during the pilot, while Cox will produce.
