Having pushed the franchise in new directions with Star Trek: Discovery and Star Trek: Picard, Paramount + is next Star Trek the offer is set to return the series to its earliest roots as the original USS Enterprise pilot episode crew returns for new adventures in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds
It’s not just the characters and visual aesthetics that will listen back to classic trek or, as producer Akiva Goldsman has confirmed to THR that Strange New Worlds will be “truly episodic” and “very adventure-of-the-week” as opposed to the sterilized stories of Discovery Picard, and latest episodes of Deep Space Nine and Company
“It’s different from the other shows because it’s really episodic,” says Goldsman. “When you think back to The Original Series, it was a tonally more liberal – I don’t mean in terms of politics, but it could be a little smoother. Like sometimes Robert Bloch would write a horror episode. Or Harlan Ellison would ‘City on the Edge or Forever, “which is hard sci-fi. Then there would be comedic episodes like” Shore Leave “or” The Trouble With Tribbles. ” [co-showrunner] Henry Alonso Myers and I are trying to serve that.
“We have all fallen very much in love, myself included, with serialized stories,” he continued. ‘And I’m talking to you from behind the stage we’re shooting on Picard, which is deeply serialized. But Strange new worlds is very much adventure-of-the-week, but with serialized character arcs … you can walk in, check one out, drop out and check out another later. It’s a fine line, because of course we want to keep continuity with the stories and the style, but we also want to Strange new worlds to be a different show. It is not DiscoveryThere are a few more re-backs (to The original series) and the uniforms are slightly modified, the sets are slightly different. Remember the Enterprise existed as a small piece [the show Discovery], but now it is its own object. When you close your eyes and think about the main sets and situations that come to mind The original series, that’s what we want to do. “
