Here’s a news story that is likely to elicit very different responses depending on which side of the Star Wars: The Last Jedi gate, but according to a report by USA Today’s Sariah Wilson, director Rian Johnson is “dying” to watch an episode of The Mandalorian and even talked to producer Dave Filoni about it.
“I asked Rian if he would ever consider doing an episode of The Mandalorian,” Wilson continued TwitterHe said it would kill him, but it’s all about planning for him. He has written [Knives Out 2] and now he’s going to film it right away. So it would be a matter of finding time to escape and do it. He said he spoke to Dave Filoni about it. He had gone to visit the set during season 1. He said it was so cool and I told him I was very jealous. He’d seen Baby Yoda months before the reveal. “

As Wilson points out, Johnson is currently a bit working on the Knives out franchise, which recently signed a massive $ 400 + million deal to produce two sequels to the critically acclaimed mystery movie for Netflix. He is also still attached to his plan Star Wars trilogy, although it remains to be seen whether that will ever come true. With so much Star Wars shows on the horizon, and Johnson has previous TV experience with Breaking Bad, might he manage to squeeze another trip to the galaxy far, far away as part of Lucasfilm’s Disney + slate?
