Avengers Endgame Theory: What Timeline Is Captain America In? ‘Away’

Recent articles

Avengers: Endgame was full of jumping, twisting and spinning on the timeline. One of them saw Steve Rogers leave the present and go back to what seemed like the past, to live a life with Peggy Carter. He returned to give one last bit of wise advice to his comrades in the present, but fans have wondered how this was possible.

What timeline is Captain America in?

This is an interesting question that was briefly referred to in the recent Disney Plus series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

On the show, the two Avengers (Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan) reminisced about their lost friend, who they called “ gone. ”

Avengers Endgame fans will remember that after defeating Thanos and getting rid of the Infinity Stones, The Cap still felt old from its time.

As a result, he used the technology they perfected during the movie to be with Peggy Carter, his love from when he first became Captain America during World War II.

At the time, it wasn’t clear how Steve did this, but after the movie, fans wondered if he’d moved within the ‘prime’ timeline, or if he actually created a whole new timeline where he and Peggy could be together .

In addition, he returned to see Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes, but as a much older man, to show how he had lived the life he wanted before Peggy’s death in 2016.

Sam and Bucky continued as a duo, and on the recent episode of their TV series, they spoke of The Cap as ‘gone’ – but what does this really mean?

The creators of Avengers Endgame seem to have differing opinions as to whether The Cap is in his own timeline, but has visited his friends again as an older man, or if he jumped around within the ‘prime’ timeline.

Some of the confusion for some comes from The Ancient One (Tilda Swinton,) who explained to Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) how the removal of Infinity Stones ‘splits’ the flow of time, suggesting seemingly alternate timelines and multiverses.

Screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely follow this to the letter, saying, “… The Ancient One specifically states that when you extract an Infinity Stone from a timeline, it creates a new timeline.

“So Steve going back and just being there wasn’t going to create a new timeline.”

However, director Joe Russo took a different view, suggesting that there are multiple timelines at play at this last moment of The Cap’s return.

He said, “In our internal logic that we defined in the room, that was the choice we made.

‘Based on everything that’s happened, he [Captain America] would have been in a branch reality and then had to switch to this, so jumped from one to the other and gave up the shield. “

However, a Quora comic fan has suggested that Captain America isn’t in a timeline because while The Cap’s cloak still lives on, Steve Rogers is dead.

In The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, Sam holds Steve’s famous shield while wearing his military uniform, surrounded by banners with Steve’s face on them.

Since the show is supposed to start six months after the Snap was rolled back, it must be that Steve returned to the timeline where his comrades fought, only to die of old age a short while later.

The user explained, “Yes, Steve Rogers is dead in the MCU. Captain America is not dead.

He lives on through the various heroes who wear his uniform and shield.

“The ceremony just before Sam Wilson handed over the Captain America Shield was the memorial for Steve Rogers who had just passed away …

“It’s also pretty telling that Steve Rogers’ likeness and photo are popping up all over the place, but we don’t see him because yes, unfortunately he’s dead in the Marvel universe now.”

His death does answer one question, and that is that while Steve may have jumped around the timelines, he has returned to the ‘primary’ timeline to die, meaning it is clear what universe he was in at the end of. Avengers: Endgame.
