Sky TV and NOW (formerly NOW TV) users will be treated to a slew of exclusive content this year and the best part is that it won’t cost you a penny extra. This massive TV boost is all thanks to Roku who just announced that its new “Roku Originals” will be coming to its own streaming devices and Sky’s services – including Sky Q and NOW – this year.

The additional content will be released as part of the Roku channel and will feature more than 75 exclusive shows, including a dozen unreleased series.

Roku says the free programming will include scripted entertainment and compelling documentaries, along with new breakout unscripted series.

Full details will be revealed next month, although the company has confirmed it will feature content featuring some of the biggest names in Hollywood, such as American star Chrissy Teigen and British actor Idris Elba.

“Every day, millions of viewers turn to The Roku Channel to find quality programming they love,” said Sweta Patel, vice president of Engagement Growth Marketing at Roku.

“We’re excited to introduce this award-winning and diverse entertainment portfolio under the Roku Originals brand – it’s relevant, fun and thought-provoking TV that caters to all of Hollywood’s best talent, including Anna Kendrick, Chrissy Teigen, Lena Waithe , Idris Elba, Kevin Hart and Liam Hemsworth. The Roku Channel is the place to go for incredible, free programming and we’re excited to bring this premium content to the biggest screen in the house. ”

The Roku Originals will join The Roku Channel’s current lineup of more than 25,000 free movies and shows, including shows such as MasterChef, Jerry Springer, The Simple Life, and Mythbusters.

Along with this new content coming to the big screen, Roku has recently removed the wraps on a new way to watch television.

The company’s all-new Roku Express 4K is designed to provide crisp Ultra HD picture quality and HDR color at a more affordable price.

Roku Express 4K is optimized for some of the highest picture standards available today, including 4K resolution, which provides four times the pixels of 1080p “full” High Definition, HDR, HDR10 and HDR10 + color standards.

Roku will charge £ 39.99 for the Express 4K when it goes on sale in May 2021.
