Two Ace Attorney games, The Great Ace Attorney: Adventures and The Great Ace Attorney 2: Resolve, are officially getting a Western release, as Capcom has announced.

The Great Ace Attorney is a spin-off of the Ace Attorney series and is set in the Meiji period (or Victorian era), and both games are released together as a bundle, The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles.

Ten new adventures await you, set about a century before the events of the original Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney. While Ryunosuke travels from his home in Japan to abroad in Europe, he will plead his case in court and defend the innocence of his clients. A different region – and a different time period – means a brand new cast of weird and wonderful people who will also stand with and against Ryunosuke in his many escapades. It seems like it is a magnet for quirky characters in the family.

Originally released in 2015 for the 3DS, The Great Ace Attorney: Adventures follows the lead actor, Ryūnosuke Naruhodō, an English student at Teito Yūmei University and an ancestor of Phoenix Wright, Ace Attorney’s lead actor.

In addition to Ryūnosuke, there are Asōgi Kazuma, a friend and law student who is studying to become a lawyer, but is already “more than qualified”, according to Capcom. Ryūnosuke also meets and befriends world-renowned British detective Sherlock Holmes (renamed Herlock Sholmes) while in Britain.

The Great Ace Attorney 2: Resolve was released on the 3DS in 2017, two years after the first game, and is a sequel to the first game, which takes place two months after the events of The Great Ace Attorney: Adventures.

The Great Ace Attorney uses the same courtroom style gameplay in the Ace Attorney games. The game is split between investigations, where players collect evidence and give testimony, and courtroom battles, where players try to find out the truth behind the case.

The Great Ace Attorney also has a jury that directly affects the trial. Jurors can make a ruling at any time during a trial, and the player will have the opportunity to present a closing argument, in which they interview jurors in an attempt to change their mind.

The Western release of Great Ace Attorney will be out July 27 on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and Steam.
