Apex Legends “Legacy” Season Gameplay Trailer Confirms New 3v3 Arenas Mode

Recent articles

EA and Respawn have dropped the first gameplay trailer for Apex Legends’ upcoming Legacy season, and it confirms the rumored Arenas mode. A new permanent addition to Apex Legends, Arenas is a 3v3 competitive mode that takes place over the course of several rounds. Teammates revival is out, but you can upgrade your weapons and jump back into the action the next round. You can check out Arenas mode in action below.

Here’s one some more details on how Arenas matches will work

Arenas is a new permanent game mode coming to Apex Legends. It condenses the chaos of 20 squads Battle Royale matches into more focused 3v3 battles. You take on the enemy with no other squads coming to crush the party – so you can focus on surviving and winning the battle. You participate in multiple rounds and strive to be the last team every time.

Before each round starts, use materials earned during the previous round to get and upgrade weapons, as well as ammo and healing supplies. After adjusting your gear and preparing for the round, jump right into the action with your gear. If you are eliminated in a round, your teammates will not be able to respawn you, but you will be ready to fight again at the start of the next round. Of course, you can still bring whipped teammates back to life. Rounds are won when you kill all players of the enemy squad. Then the next round begins, and the cycle repeats until an overall winner is crowned.

Winning an Arenas match

To win an Arenas match, you must win at least three rounds and be two points ahead of the enemy team. Let’s talk about what that looks like in practice! The easiest way is to win three rounds without dropping more than one round to your opponent. In other words, go 3-0 or 3-1 and the game is over.

However, if your opponent can win at least two rounds, it gets interesting. You have to advance two full rounds to win. Going 3-2 or 4-3 isn’t enough. Instead, you have to go 4-2 or 5-3 to secure victory. The rounds continue until one team moves forward two rounds. If this continues through the ninth round (by going 4-4), the game will begin in sudden death mode. Whoever wins round nine takes home all the glory.

Prepare for battle

Win or lose, each round starts over with basic equipment and materials to use. Decide how you want to approach the upcoming round by using your materials to get weapons, upgrade them, and pick up any additional supplies you need. The bar gets higher each round as more materials are awarded than in the previous round, giving you more options and allowing you to upgrade further as the match progresses. (Don’t worry, materials cannot be purchased – you must earn them by playing and completing rounds.)

Use your ultimate and tactical skills wisely as you can only use each round for a limited number of times, instead of charging indefinitely like in other modes. Legends start with some tactical payloads, but additional payloads and ultimate abilities can be purchased with materials when customizing your gear. This allows more Legends to be made viable in Arenas and forces characters with very strong tactics (such as Bloodhound) to make choices between weapon upgrades or more tactical attacks. Don’t worry, any unused Ultimate and Tactical payloads will transfer to the next round.

Sounds like an interesting new spin on Apex Legends as we know it! Arenas matches take place on a changing selection of battlefields, some of which are carved from Apex Legends’ existing Battle Royale maps, some completely original. Here’s what to expect …

Party Crasher

Party Crasher takes place in a luxurious downtown square where players can choose to take part in the crashed Voyage or the opulent two-story buildings that make up the square. The card is varied, with each side playing different strengths and offering a wide variety of options. The center square is well connected, requiring players to make quick decisions within the many flanking options, while the Voyage sits high and offers great sightlines and positions for those who want to play from greater distances.

Phase Runner

Phase Runner is a hidden experimental zone on top of a mountain. The large center is very open and offers long enough sight lines to find your enemy. This contrasts with industrial interests, which focus the battle on mid / near. From both spawns, players can take the Prototype Stage Runner to access an area almost instantly and quickly start fighting. Construction on the other side was unfinished, so players will fight through the abandoned space that offers different engagement ranges and multiple flanking options.

BR Arena locations

In addition to the two new maps, other areas of our three BR maps will be rolled in a fortnightly rotation, giving you a total of five maps for Arenas. At the start you get artillery from Kings Canyon, Thermal Station from World’s Edge and Golden Gardens from Olympus.

Apex Legends Arenas Mode will launch alongside the rest of the Legacy Season, which will also include the new Legend Valkyrie, the usual Battle Pass, and more. Click here for the details.

Apex Legends is available now on PC, Xbox One, PS4 and Switch, and can be played via backward compatibility on Xbox Series X / S and PS5. The Legacy update will be released on May 4.
