PS5 stock shortages are likely to persist
After a terrifying month of PlayStation 5 stock issuance in April, customers are expecting a much better time in May.
Delays in shipping the PS5 have barely led to PS5 restocking in recent weeks, something to be remedied with a record drop from early to mid-May.
Unfortunately, that’s where the good news ends, as Sony expects stock shortages to continue throughout the year.
Speaking to investors on a recent earnings call, Sony CFO Hiroki Totoki said the company is unable to “dramatically increase the offering.”
While the PS5 is still expected to outperform the PlayStation 4 over the same period of its lifespan, it is unlikely to meet the overwhelming public demand.
“As I said before, we are aiming for more sales volume than the PS4 [during year 2], ”Said Totoki (via VGC). “But can we drastically increase the supply? No, that’s not likely.”
“The shortage of semiconductors is one factor, but there are other factors that influence production volume.
“So right now we want to aim for [beating] second annual sales of 14.8 million, second year of PS4. “
As a lack of semiconductors continues to cause problems for Sony, the company is beginning to investigate alternatives.
“We could perhaps find a secondary resource, or by changing the design we could cope,” continues Totoki.
“In [the Electronics Products & Solutions business] we took a flexibility maneuver and in FY2021 we wanted to adapt flexibility to the situation. “
With shortages likely to persist, customers should keep a close eye on the next round of PS5 inventory declines in May.
According to the PS5 UK Stock – Instant Updates Twitter, delivery dates have been pushed forward in May, so finally good news for customers.
“PS5 UK Stock arrived a few days earlier than expected,” the account tweeted. “GAME and Argos will now release PS5 bundles between May 4-12. Amazon expects 10-17.”
To give yourself the best possible chance of securing a console, it’s worth bookmarking some of the more popular stock control accounts.
If you manage to get your hands on a PS5 then you’re in for a treat as the next few weeks are full of new game releases.
Retoural exclusive to PS5 has received critical acclaim, while Resident Evil Village reviews should follow shortly.
Described as a roguelike bullet-hell shooter, Returnal takes place on a hostile alien planet where no two runs are the same.
After crash-landing on a shape-shifting alien planet, Selene must fight tooth and nail to survive. Time and again she is defeated and must resume her journey every time she dies.
“In this roguelike shooter, both the planet and your equipment change with each cycle, requiring you to adapt your play style and take on new challenges.”
