New gameplay footage from Tales of Arise has been shared online, featuring more of the game’s combat system and more.
The new footage was shown during a recent livestream on NicoNico that also showed more of Scarlet Nexus. The Tales of Arise segment of the livestream, which you can view by continuing here, includes a number of new battle visuals that showcase the Boost Strike system that allows players to perform powerful combination attacks together with another party member, and a new take on the Skill Tree system that allows players to learn new skills by investing SP they have earned after winning battles.
Tales of Arise won’t play too differently from previous entries in the series, such as Tales of Zestiria and Tales of Berseria, but the team once experimented with an open-world concept. However, this was eventually set aside to create a more focused experience, as confirmed by producer Yusuke Tomizawa last month.
We even debated whether to go for an open world concept or a linear concept. This was something in the early stages that we really had a back and forth debate about. We actually ran tests that simulated both situations and finally came to the decision that, as we said, we went for the linear option for reasons that we want the players to concentrate. We thought it was the best way for players to really enjoy Tales of Arise. Again, the story, the character development, all that good stuff, we thought it was the best way to convey that gameplay to the player.
Tales of Arise launches worldwide on September 10 on PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S and Xbox One.
