Elizabeth Olsen directs HBO Max’s limited series Love and Death

Fresh off her Disney + Marvel series WandaVisionElizabeth Olsen will star in HBO’s limited series Max Love and death as Texas murderer Candy Montgomery, who killed her boyfriend with an ax. The series comes from David E. Kelly (Undo it) and director Lesli Linka Glatter (Crazy men).

Love and death is based on the book Proof of Love: A True Story of Suburban Passion and Death by Jim Atkinson and Joe Bob Briggs, as well as Texas Monthly articles on the Montgomery case. The series’ synopsis reads, “Two church-going couples enjoy family life in a small Texas town until someone picks up an ax.”

Kelly will be writing series with Glatter as director and Lionsgate as producer. Kelly and Glatter will also serve as executive producers alongside Nicole Kidman and Per Saari through their company Blossom Films.


“This is a gripping tale of the frustrations and desires of two small-town women that culminate in a horrific act of violence,” said Sarah Aubrey, Head of Original Content at HBO Max. “We are thrilled to be partnering with David, Lesli, Nicole and Per and incredibly lucky to have Elizabeth at the center of our story to bring out all the layers of Candy that make this story so memorable.”

Candy Montgomery’s story has gained popularity recently Love and death isn’t the only series that focuses on hair lit up green. It was announced last year Handmaid’s Tale star Elizabeth Moss would also star as Montgomery in the Hulu series Candy, which, funnily enough, will also be directed by one of her Crazy men directors Michael Uppendhal.


Olsen recently finished production on her next Marvel turn as Wanda Maximoff / Scarlet Witch Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness.
