James Gunn says The Suicide Squad villain Starro is “hilarious, ridiculous and damn terrifying”

Considering he chose a living planet as the villain in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that James Gunn has opted for another wild and crazy villain for his upcoming DCEU foray The suicide squad.

As we saw in the recent trailer, Task Force X will take on Starro the Conqueror, a giant alien monster resembling a starfish known as the very first villain to fight the Justice League of America in the 1960s. The Brave and the Bold # 28).

Speak against Den of Geek to promote The suicide squad ahead of its August release, Gunn discussed the reasoning behind his choice of a villain, revealing that Starro won’t be the only antagonist in the movie:

. Margot Robbie on Harley Quinn’s role as “catalyst of chaos” in The Suicide Squad

Starro is hilarious because he’s ridiculous. He’s a giant, sky-blue starfish, but he’s also fucking terrifying. When I was a kid, I thought that was the scariest of all time … and I think that’s an example of what this movie is: it’s ridiculous and it’s also terrifying and serious. So he works really well as the villain of the movie – actually as one of the bad guys. “

Welcome to Hell – aka Belle Reve, the highest death rate prison in the US of A. Where the worst supervillains are held and where they do everything they can to get out – even join the super-secret, super-shady task Force X. Today’s do-or-die task? Collect a collection of cons including Bloodsport, Peacemaker, Captain Boomerang, Ratcatcher 2, Savant, King Shark, Blackguard, Javelin and everyone’s favorite psycho, Harley Quinn. Then arm them heavily and (literally) drop them on the remote enemy-drenched island of Corto Maltese. Trekking through a jungle full of militant opponents and guerrilla troops at every turn, the squad is on a search-and-destruction mission with only Colonel Rick Flag on the ground to get them carried … and Amanda Waller’s government engineers to their ears, who their every move. And as always, one wrong move and they are dead (either by their opponents, a teammate or Waller himself). When someone makes bets, the smart money is against them – all of them.

The suicide squad sees James Gunn directing a cast with Suicide Squad returns Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Jai Courtney (Captain Boomerang), Joel Kinnaman (Rick Flag) and Viola Davis (Amanda Waller) as well as new DCEU additions Idris Elba, Peter Capaldi, Alice Braga, Nathan Fillion, Taika Waititi, Jennifer Holland , David Dastmalchian, Joaquín Cosío, Mayling Ng, Flula Borg, Juan Diego Botto, Storm Reid, John Cena, Pete Davidson, Tinashe Kajese, Daniela Melchior, Julio Ruiz, Steve Agee, Michael Rooker, Sean Gunn and Sylvester Stallone.
