Animal Crossing: New Horizons sales reach 35.9 million units worldwide

A recent finacial report Nintendo unveiled cumulative worldwide sales for Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The title has officially sold 35.9 million copies by March 31, 2021. In addition, Nintendo has released sales figures for Ring Fit Adventure and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe in this report. [Thanks, Game Watch!]

Relative, while Ring Fit Adventure and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe were successful titles, their sales showed compared to Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe sold a total of 10.62 million units while Ring Fit Adventure sold approximately 7.38 million units during the fiscal year. These figures are based on total worldwide sales.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons was a certified hit at launch, with sales of 11.77 million copies worldwide within the first eleven days of release. The numbers only continued to rise from there, now culminating in the 35.9 million copies sold in the fiscal year. A Famitsu sales report in January 2021 revealed that Animal Crossing: New Horizons and the Nintendo Switch were the top sellers in the Japanese market.

Since its release, Animal Crossing: New Horizons has seen numerous updates. This includes the additional seasonal events, which have added features such as pumpkin cultivation to the game. In addition, each subsequent update adds new furniture items to the game.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available immediately for Nintendo Switch.
