There’s big Sony news this week saying the company may be pushing ahead with a PlayStation 5 redesign to get the stock moving.
The PlayStation 5 is one of the most sought after consoles on the market. More than 7 million copies have been sold since its release in November – and that number would likely be much higher if someone could actually get their hands on one. Hundreds of thousands of people have tried and failed in recent months, and Sony blames the production shutdown on a shortage of semiconductors. The company believes that changing the design can help drive production forward.
Sony recently stated that a redesign might be necessary to meet the extremely high demand for the PlayStation 5. cars to smartphones. He confirmed that if Sony can meet its sales targets, “we may be able to find a secondary resource [for the semiconductors], or by changing the design, we could cope. “
According to the recent leaks, it looks like PlayStation 5’s new redesign is worth the wait. Apparently, the new console could be much more powerful thanks to the new custom AMD silicon.
Identifying sources in the supply chain DigiTimes claims production of the redesigned PS5 will start in 2022. This means that we may be able to see the new model as early as next year.
As for getting a PS5 this year, it’s not going to be an easy task. Sony CEO Jim Ryan declined to guarantee that the company would be able to supply enough PS5s for the 2021 holiday season demand, only stating that “things will get better every month in 2021.”
Time will tell what Sony has in store for the massive PlayStation 5 shortage and possible console redesign.
