Courteney Cox clarifies that new Scream movie is ‘not Scream 5’, but a ‘brand new launch’

With the last episode in the Scream Recurring star Courteney Cox, who plays favorite character Gale Weathers, clarified the continuity of the new film on January 14, 2022.

During an interview on The Drew Barrymore Show, Cox revealed that the latest movie isn’t Shout 5 but it is the start of a new franchise within the Scream series.

Scream, this is the fifth. It is not Shout 5 this is, however Scream…. These directors are incredible, they absolutely make it, it’s a new franchise. It’s hip, it’s scary, it’s just new Scream. It’s not a reboot, it’s not a remake, it’s just a brand new launch. I think it’s going to be great. “

While the details of the plot are kept secret, co-director Matt Bettinelli-Olpin has previously stated that the film took inspiration from Jordan Peele’s work on Get out and U.S and explain how Scream will be influenced by the late director Wes Craven in terms of the violence of the film.
