Bong Joon-ho is one of the busiest filmmakers today. Not only does he work on two feature films, one in Korean and one in English, but he also tries something completely new, and the Oscar-winning filmmaker takes his keen eye for cinema into the world of animation.

Bong will direct a Korean animation with the production company 4th Creative Party, which has worked on visual effects for his previous films The host, Snow Piercer, and Okja.

According to the Korean outlet Naver, this will be a full CGI animation project and will take viewers to deep sea adventures with humans and creatures. The film is said to follow “a deep-sea invertebrate fish that thinks it is suffering from a spinal disc herniation.”

This film is said to be something the filmmaker has been working on since 2018. According to reports, Joon-ho has also recruited an actor for the lead role in the voice, but no name has surfaced in the coverage.

Bong Joon-ho’s last movie, Parasite, took home the Oscar for Best Picture, Best International Film, Best Original Screenplay, and the filmmaker also walked away with a win for Best Director. He is currently the executive producer of the scheduled performance Parasite TV series for HBO Max.
