Playstation Studios has more than 25 games in development

A PlayStation Studios executive has said they have more than 25 titles in development, more than half of which are brand new IPs.

“There is an incredible amount of variety coming from different regions,” said Herman Hulst, head of Playstation Studios, in a recent interview for Wired. “Big, small, different genres.” The 25 games in development will feature both first-party and second-party releases.

Which games are in development?

Here are some of the games confirmed so far:

  • Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart (Insomniac) – coming later this month;
  • Horizon: Forbiden West (Gorilla Games) – coming later this year;
  • God of War: Ragnarok (Sony Santa Monica) – is coming “when it is finishedSo we hope for it by 2022;
  • Gran Turismo 7 (Polyphony Digital) – coming in 2022.

Hulst has not revealed any new titles or sequels that may be coming, so that is left to the imagination. What we know from the article, however, is that Forbiden West will be using the PS5’s DualSense to replicate the feel of grass at your fingertips. I think it’s safe to assume that the games in development will have that certain je ne sais quoi to improve their (hopefully) great gameplay. Or hey, who knows, we might get up to 25 different DLCs for Among Us when it comes to the Playstation Store.

Fortunately, indie games will also get some attention. Haven Entertainment Studios is teaming up with Sony for their new game, and Firewalk Studios also for a currently unannounced multiplayer title. Emerald Studios is also working on their first major game – the Zelda-esque Kena: Bridge of Spirits – which will be released in August of this year.

Whether it’s in Sony’s interest to hype the PS5 when faced with likely shortages remains to be seen. In the Wired article, however, Sony chief Jim Ryan stated that they are doing their best to get the console in the hands of gamers. We’re holding you to that, Jim.
