Director Andy Serkis explains why Woody Harrelson’s Cletus Kasady ditched the wig for Venom: Let There Be Carnage

Many a Cletus Kasday fan probably breathed a sigh of relief this week when Sony released the first trailer for Venom: Let There Be Carnage and we got confirmation that Woody Harrelson’s deranged serial killer-turned-symbiote host dropped the curly wig we saw him play in the 2018 post-credit scene Venom.

In a conversation with IGN, director Andy Serkis has revealed why they decided to shake up Cletus’ look for Let There Be Carnage, and it has absolutely nothing to do with how ridiculous it looked, frankly.

“We wanted to give the feeling that he has been there for a while and that he has gone through several changes so that we really could [see] what’s going on with the character’s darkness, ”said Serkis, who went on to discuss the design of Kasady’s alter-ego Carnage.

“This character was so much fun to work on in the design and to take along [from] the comic world. It was great to have the chance to take this character that has never been seen on screen before, just like you get to know him in our story and really play with the physicality, how he moves, how he extrudes his tentacles. “

Venom: Let There Be Carnage sees Tom Hardy return as Eddie Brock / Venom alongside Michelle Williams as Anne Weying, Naomie Harris as Frances Barrison / Shriek, Reid Scott as Dan Lewis, Stephen Graham as Detective Mulligan, Peggy Lu as Mrs. Chen and Woody Harrelson as Cletus Kasady / Carnage.

Venom: Let There Be Carnage will be released in theaters on September 24.
