Shock PS5 stock news as Xbox Series X and Nintendo Switch outpace Sony

PS5 inventory surged in May following turbulent UK sales in April (Image: SONY)

Console sales have been heavily impacted by the ongoing stock shortages in the UK, and May is expected to be a better month for Sony’s PlayStation 5.

Several UK retailers have already released shares this month, which should mean a higher place on the PS5 sales charts.

And the only way is up, after the shock that reveals that Sony’s flagship gaming machine was sold out in April by the Xbox Series X, Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4.

A new report this week confirms that Nintendo’s handheld console was the UK’s best-selling console in April 2021.

That goes against what has happened in recent months, with the Nintendo Switch and PS5 reportedly selling similar songs since early 2021.

The report – divided by first GamesIndustry.Biz, reveals that more than 90,000 were sold in the UK during the four weeks ending in late May.

This shows the impact of current inventory shortages on console sales in 2021.

The report adds that PS5 sales took a major dip in April, with the PlayStation 4 becoming Sony’s best-selling console for the period.

And it was an issue seen in real-time in April with many gamers unable to find a console to buy.

Not only was it a problem for Sony, with Nintendo Switch and Xbox Series X consoles hard to find too.

But it seems Sony was one of the hardest hit companies in the past month, with things moving forward in May.

In contrast to April, there have already been several stock declines from retailers such as Argos, Currys, GAME and ASDA.

And more are on the way, with more restocking events expected to be hosted by leading retailers next week.

ShopTo is expected to be among the first, followed by Amazon UK on May 18 or 19, and Very with a stock release sometime later this month.

It’s unclear how many consoles will be available to buy from Amazon, which hasn’t seen a significant drop in weeks.

But rumors have it that it could be one of the internet giant’s biggest drops since early 2021.

The @ PS5StockAlertUK Twitter posted, “News: Amazon UK expects a shipment of around 10K PlayStation 5s later this week, indicating a drop from May 17-19. This will be their largest inventory to date as Amazon UK usually 6K – 8K.

“This is the first time we’ve received information about Amazon UK since their earlier drop in March. This could mean they won’t be replenishing this week unless it’s a double replenishment in the space of two weeks, which is unlikely. as usual, keep an eye out every morning! “

With retailers very rarely confirming exactly when a PS5 replenishment will take place, the rumors and leaked data from stock tracker accounts like @ PS5StockAlertUK are the best indication that fans will know when the next replenishment will go live.

And with all of these combined, it seems very likely that PS5 sales will be back to where they were for most of 2021.
