In a new report, the upcoming video game Starfield will not be coming to the PlayStation 5 and will only be console exclusive to the Xbox Series X / S.
According to Venturebeat writer Jeff Grubb, he says Starfield will remain exclusive to Xbox Series X / S and PC and will never come to the PS5 side. He confirmed this with his many sources familiar with the decision.
Grubb went on to explain his reason for his confident statement that the game is not coming to PS5. He revealed that Microsoft wants this to be their “golden goose” for Xbox Game Pass. Like Minecraft, Starfield will grow the subscription service.
Niko Partners Analyst Daniel Ahmad actually explains it better. He states:
With Game Pass at the center of the Xbox ecosystem, it is increasingly important for Microsoft to invest in exclusive content and IP that add value to the service and lead to new user acquisitions.
While some may see it as a loss for Microsoft for not putting the game on the PS5, it sees it as an investment to increase marketing for Xbox Game Pass. Ultimately, their losses will be covered more quickly as more people turn to the subscription service to take advantage of it and play Starfield and other triple A Bethesda games. Like possibly Elder Scrolls VI.
