Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness Has Been Completely Rewritten After Hiring Sam Raimi

15 years later Spider Man-3, director Sam Raimi will return to the Marvel universe next year with the release of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the fan-favorite filmmaker who stepped in as a late replacement for Doctor Strange helmer Scott Derrickson who left the project due to creative differences with Marvel Studios.

Derrickson originally planned to reunite with his regular writer C. Robert Cargill on the sequel headed by Benedict Cumberbatch, but it appears the duo’s ideas were completely discarded after Raimi’s appointment, with Loki lead writer Michael Waldron was brought in to rework things “from scratch”.

“How do we just make a movie in two months?” said Waldron when he spoke to Vanity Fair about being approached by Kevin Feige to handle rewriters. “But COVID quickly descended on us. We’re only shooting in November now. So I got to spend my 2020 on Zooms with Sam Raimi. Not bad.”

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has now finished filming and we will find out in March 2022 what Raimi and Waldron have come up with for the Sorcerer Supreme.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is directed by Sam Raimi and stars Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange), Benedict Wong (Wong), Rachel McAdams (Christine Palmer), Chiwetel Ejiofor (Mordo), and Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch) as well as Xochitl Gomez (The Babysitters Club) as America Chávez.
