In the weeks following the release of Zack Snyder’s Justice Leaguethe filmmaker revealed that he was reuniting with Warner Bros. had collided during the filming of The Snyder Cut, this time over his plan to record John Stewart’s Green Lantern meeting with Bruce Wayne – a role that was eventually filled by Harry Lennix’s Martian Manhunter after finding himself blocked through the studio.

Snyder shot the scene in question with actor Wayne T. Carr playing John Stewart, and during an interview with… YouTuber Tyrone Magnus, the director has revealed that the dispute was “very serious” and nearly brought the entire Snyder Cut to a standstill.

“When we had this fight, I was like, ‘Guys, I don’t understand. We’ve got this whole Multiverse thing going on, who cares?’” Snyder said. “I just think the right ending for this movie is John Stewart is that’s the right ending that has to happen By the way I don’t want to take anything from Harry and Martian Manhunter because it’s cool See him early and then see him at the end it’s cool it kind of makes his story complete. But it was always my intention to have John Stewart [meet Batman].”

“Even if there are no other movies, it would make sense when the movies come that John Stewart would say, ‘The Green Lantern Corps is going to fight Darkseid with you because we have to. You guys can’t make it without us. We’re in this. powerful allies,” explains Snyder. “For me it was like a no-brainer. But it was a very serious fight that I was in.”

Snyder went on to reveal that the disagreement became so serious that the project was in jeopardy, though he eventually admitted, “To me it wasn’t worth doing it to Wayne, like blowing up the whole movie – because it was so close – And then everyone has to say, or make Wayne feel, ‘Oh shit, I canceled the whole movie because Snyder wouldn’t give in.’ And I was just like, ‘Okay, fuck it, I’m just going [let it go].’ And Wayne was great at the thing.”
