STALKER 2 Shows Off First Real Stunning Gameplay, Gets New Release Date Early 2022

Despite being in development in one form or another for over a decade, fans have had to wait when it comes to STALKER 2 gameplay. Sure, GSC Game World has provided some “in-engine teasers”, but no real look at the game in action. Well, that apparently changed during the Xbox & Bethesda E3 Showcase. A new long STALKER 2 was delivered, and while some of it might still be in-game cinematics, it looked like we were getting a fair amount of real gameplay, and damn it looked good!

Framed by a bunch of survivors who talk about their experiences around a fire, we main character Skif engages in a skirmish with robbers, explores a creepy lab, scans for anomalies, interacts with some unique characters and encounters some very extreme weather conditions. Anyway, enough of my introduction – you can check out the trailer for yourself below.

Not sure what exactly was going on in that trailer? Fortunately, GSC Game World has provided a series of notes you can follow as you watch!

  • The fans will recognize the exact location on the swamps. If you’ve played STALKER.: Clear Sky, you might remember this place. Time did the job, but the tower is certainly still standing.
  • The new fancy detector is called Gilka. Which means ‘a stick’ in Ukrainian.
  • That beautiful thing that Skif picks up is an artifact called Jelly. In the game, it restores your stamina.
  • There is actually a teaser of new faction. You can notice it during the Chemical Plantgunfight section. We won’t mention the actual time code to make it more interesting.
  • The city in the dancing man scene is Chernobyl-2. The strange waltz-loving man has a hiding place in Chernobyl-2. That’s a town not so far from Pripyat that you saw in the gameplay teaser.
  • The person at the end is Sergiy Grygorovych, the creator of the STALKER series.
  • In our Ultimate edition, the artifact is really special. With some high-level magic, it floats in the air.
  • The building you see on the horizon during the rooftop scene can be found on the official key art. Any idea what it could be?

STALKER 2 sneaks to PC and Xbox Series X/S on April 28, 2022.
