We’ve seen Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy and it’s a single player game coming out on October 26 with no DLC or MTX

Eidos Montreál is indeed working on a Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy game, as was claimed several years ago. In fact, it’s almost ready and will be released in just over four months, on October 26 to be precise, for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series S|X.

We got a first look at the game during a presentation shared with the press a few days ago. Here’s everything we learned directly from the creators.

You play as Star-Lord and constantly have to make choices

This is not one of those games where you can switch between the characters of the group at any time. Eidos Montreál has chosen to let you play alone as Peter Quill, also known as Star-Lord, the leader of the Guardians of the Galaxy.

According to the developers, the decisions you make as Star-Lord will have all kinds of repercussions, from lighthearted and small-scale to terrifying and large-scale, as the game reacts to the choices. In the presentation we saw an example where Drax suggested throwing Rocket over a ravine so that he can open the path forward for everyone; however, going along with his idea choice made Rocket angry, and the game made a point of noting it as a result. In another case, Star-Lord had to choose whether to “sell” Rocket or Groot to a villain to get her money (with the plan, of course, to rescue them afterward). That said, it became clear that the beginning and the end of the story will be the same for everyone.

During combat, Star-Lord is an agile character on the battlefield who can glide and soar thanks to the jet boots. He’s also equipped with elemental blasters, but most importantly, he can activate each group member’s unique abilities.

There’s also a Devil May Cry style bar that rates your team’s performance. Here, however, you can use it once full as some sort of ultimate skill.

The Guardians of the Galaxy screwed up and now need to fix their mistake fout

The story of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy takes place several years after the end of a massive galactic war, at a point where Peter Quill’s group has only been together for less than a year. Short of money, they must come up with one of their crazy plans if they want to avoid losing their beloved ship.

Most importantly, though, they need to fix a problem they created themselves. Through a bet between two of the Guardians, they cause a “very minor accident” that starts off as relatively insignificant, but soon turns into something much more sinister that could threaten the entire universe if they don’t take a stand against it.

The group will also have to confront a mysterious order that aims to destroy anything and anyone who dares to defy their beliefs.

As for villains, there will be a mix of popular Guardians of the Galaxy villains along with others from the comics that are less well known. The only one shown in the presentation is Lady Hellbenderwhich certainly belong to the latter group.

The Goofiness and Humor seem right in place

From what we could see in the presentation, Eidos Montréal has managed to perfectly capture what makes Guardians of the Galaxy so much fun: the craziness and humor of their interactions as a family of misfits.

The atmosphere also seems to fit well. The developers said they’ve really sharpened Star-Lord and its 1980s Earth fixation, particularly when it comes to music. There will be a number of licensed songs in the game, including music from Kiss, Iron Maiden, Wham!, Blondie, Pat Benatar. Eidos Montréal even went so far as to tease that music will somehow play an integral part in the action, though they haven’t explained what this will mean in practice.

Single player only, no DLC or microtransactions

Despite previous rumors to the contrary, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy will be strictly single player. In addition, it was confirmed that there will also be no DLC or microtransactions. Everything can only be unlocked in-game, including cosmetic items. That is certainly unique in today’s landscape.
