Anya Taylor-Joy enters the world of Mad Max and take on the role of Furiosa in her own solo film. First introduced in Mad Max: Fury Road where she was played by Charlize Theron, Furiosa quickly won fans over for her bad-ass energy. Taylor-Joy is seemingly happy to tackle that, but seems most excited to be working with legendary filmmaker George Miller.
In the latest Variety’s Actors on Actors series, Taylor-Joy sat down with Emma co-star Josh O’Connor and candid about her excitement about learning Miller’s wild ghost.
“The Thing I’m Most Excited About” furiosa is, No. 1, George Miller. That brain is incredible. I feel so lucky and privileged to spend time with him and grow alongside him. I also really want to do something physical. Becoming physically different is something that, strangely enough, will give me a lot of peace. I am very excited to work hard.
Taylor-Joy also shared a cute little story about her father’s struggle to figure out the character’s name: “My father gives me hell because we speak Spanish; he calls her ‘Furiosa’ [with a pronounced accent]. And I’m like; it is an English language film. But, like, “OK, Daddy.” I have a grace period until August and then I will work back-to-back until mid-2023.”
