Developers Raven Software surprise everyone with a special download for Call of Duty Warzone and COD Modern Warfare.

Modern Warfare proved very popular with fans when it launched in 2019, but no longer receives substantial updates.

These are now largely reserved for Warzone and Black Ops: Cold War, which have been integrated to form a unified player base.

This will allow Activision to launch the same content in both games and there are big plans for Call of Duty Warzone Season 4.

In the coming weeks, there are four new multiplayer maps, five new weapons, new Points of Interests in Verdansk and a new quest in Outbreak that paves the way for the next free Zombies map.

But as a surprising move, it has also been announced that a new update to Call of Duty Modern Warfare is coming this month.

As part of the Call of Duty Season 4 launch, MW fans will be able to download a special texture pack.

This will also be available in COD Warzone and will help improve visuals in both games across all platforms.

The new high-resolution download isn’t available today, but will go live next week on Tuesday, June 22.

A post from Activision explains: “Following the launch of Season Four, console players of Warzone and Modern Warfare will also have the option to download a new High-Res Texture Pack on June 22.

“This adds more high-definition textures to the game, which is optimal for those playing the game at higher resolutions like 1440p and 4K.

“The High-Res Texture Pack has an estimated download size of 7.2-7.6 GB, depending on the console.”

The full Call of Duty download formats are as follows:

  • PlayStation 5: 7.6GB
  • PlayStation 4: 7.6GB
  • Xbox Series X / Xbox Series S: 7.2 GB
  • Xbox One: 7.2GB

It should be noted that while the new Battle Pass is coming to Modern Warfare, there are no official plans to provide further content for the game.

Modern Warfare is somewhat integrated with the other two COD games, which are mainly focused on the experience system.

Meanwhile, Warzone gets new sights to explore in Verdansk, as well as a new storyline to follow.

With the Zombies gone and Verdansk in 1984, Activision is starting to lay the groundwork for the next big game update.

A description of the new Red Door event reads: “Something has gone wrong in Verdansk, and the first step is to find out what’s inside those downed satellites.

“Interact with Sat-Link impact sites across the city for event rewards and powerful items, and step through the mysterious Red Doors when you’re ready to explore Verdansk like never before.

“Our information cannot explain the origin of these mysterious red doors around Verdansk, but one thing is certain: they allow you to [[REDACTED]]around the [[REDACTED]]. What’s behind it? Explore and enter them to [[REDACTED]]across the [[REDACTED]].

“No Red Doors” [[REDACTED]]unless you ping them, and after going through them there’s no telling [[REDACTED]]go out on the other side … and in one step [[REDACTED]].”
