While Bayonetta 3 didn’t show up at E3 2021, Nintendo representatives made a statement about the game’s development afterwards. Nintendo of America Director of Product Marketing Bill Trinen and Senior Director of Localization Nate Bihldorff spoke about the game in a GameSpot interview. It confirmed that the game still exists and is “progressing well”.
Trinen specifically noted that development on the game is continuing, although he has not confirmed or denied having actually played the game. He said the following.
I’ll even take it a step further and say that not only does it exist, but it’s progressing well. I think we have a habit of showing things when we’re ready to show them. And sure, we like to show things when I think the developers are ready to show them. We weren’t talking about it here at E3, but stay tuned.
The game appears at 7:37 PM in the GameSpot interview below.
As Kotaku noticed, Hideki Kamiya noted Bayonetta 3 and both its status and existence after E3 2021. On the same day as the June 15, 2021 Nintendo Direct, he tweeted about the game. He noted that comments questioning the status were “annoying,” according to Kotaku’s report.
Nintendo has announced Bayonetta 3 at The Game Awards 2017. Since then, only vague updates have been offered. For example, in 2019, PlatinumGames’ lead producer Atsushi Inaba said there would be a change in the design process. Kamiya also said its development is “progressing” and was not “cancelled” in 2020. As 2021 kicked off, Kamiya also said he hoped an update could be offered sometime in 2021.
Bayonetta 3 is in development for the Nintendo Switch.
