Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin was undoubtedly one of the most controversial games revealed at E3 2021. It generated a lot of chatter on social media (as confirmed by Synthesio’s report), although that wasn’t necessarily all positive feedback. The game, which can also be played on PlayStation 5 via a limited trial period, was technically very rough. In addition, its writing has also been criticized for the rather blunt and stereotypical dialogues thus far.

But in conversation with Famitsu (via VG247), the developers pointed out that the full game’s story is expected to be very emotional for players.

Director Daisuke Inoue: Stranger of Paradise means exactly what it says these strangers are in the land of Paradise. At the same time, it can mean people who shouldn’t be in paradise. I think it’s a title that perfectly captures the game’s story.

Creative Producer Tetsuya Nomura: In the full game there will be even more characters, the game will be a lot broader and I think the story is quite compelling. It can be a little confusing to see these characters come out of nowhere, totally different from anything you expected, but I hope you keep an eye out for the information to come.

Director Daisuke Inoue: It’s a game that tries something different, so I expect a wide range of feedback. I’m sure everyone’s opinion about the trial version will help us drastically improve the quality of the final game, so please give us your feedback.

Producer Jin Hujiwara: The story is only touched on very briefly in the trial version, but once it unfolds, it is a very impressive story that will really move you emotionally. Look forward to the game and keep an eye on the news.

Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin, developed by Team Ninja along with Square Enix, is set for a 2022 release on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S|X.
