Samsung Galaxy Watch update has been revealed (Image: SAMSUNG)
It looks like an exciting time for Galaxy Watch users, with Samsung giving a taste of what’s coming soon with its hugely popular wearables. We already knew that the Korean company was joining forces with Google to improve the software that powers its devices, but now we have a clearer picture of what this actually means for users.
During an online announcement at this year’s Mobile World Congress, Samsung revealed that the new One UI Watch operating system will create an entirely new Galaxy Watch experience.
Improvements include better app compatibility, with most applications downloaded on phones appearing right on the watch face.
Other settings, such as world clocks and call blocking, are also automatically adjusted depending on how your Android phone is set up.
Samsung also promises that this unified platform will “open up new features and integrations” with popular third-party apps available to download directly from Google Play onto your Galaxy Watch.
In addition, Samsung is releasing an improved watch face design tool, making it easier than ever for designers to create new watch faces.
Another bonus of switching to this new software is a major performance boost with expected faster boot times and longer battery life.
“Samsung and Google have a long history of working together, and when we’ve worked together, the experience for our consumers has been significantly better for everyone,” said Sameer Samat, Vice President of Product Management, Android and Wear, Google.
“That certainly applies to this new, unified platform, which will be rolled out for the first time on Samsung’s new Galaxy Watch. In partnership with Samsung, we’re excited to bring longer battery life, faster performance, and a wide variety of apps, including many from Google, to an all-new wearable experience.”
So that’s the news about the software, but when will it be released and what on devices?
While no actual date has been revealed, Samsung has teased that a new Galaxy Watch is coming and will be the very first device with One UI Watch.
This new wearable will be unveiled at Samsung’s Unpacked event later this summer, in August, usually the time when the company unveils its next batch of new gadgets.
