The first trailer has been released for The Many Saints of Newark, the upcoming prequel to HBO’s acclaimed crime drama series The Sopranos.
Directed by Alan Taylor, the film stars Michael Gandolfini as a young Tony Soprano and gives us a glimpse into the early years of the New Jersey mobster, played by Michael’s real-life father, the late James Gandolfini, in the critically acclaimed TV series.

Growing up in one of the most tumultuous eras in Newark’s history, young Anthony Soprano becomes a man as rival mobsters begin to rise and take the hold of the all-powerful DiMeo crime family over the increasingly racially diverse torn city challenge. Caught in the changing times is the uncle he adores, Dickie Moltisanti, who struggles to manage both his professional and personal responsibilities – and whose influence over his cousin will help make the impressionable teenager the all-powerful mob boss we will later become to namely: Tony Soprano.
