2021 promises to be a great year for the gaming industry as the total number of players has reached 3 billion this year and will continue to rise in the coming years.

Today, Newzoo released its 2021 Global Games Market report, showing that the gaming industry is healthier than ever, with a total player count of 3 billion in 2021. Of these players, 2.8 billion are playing on mobile devices, major players. numbers by Asian players and accessibility, 1.4 billion on PC and 0.9 billion on consoles. The total number of players is expected to exceed 3.30 billion by 2024.

Due to the appetite for mobile games in Asia-Pacific and the segment’s accessibility and ubiquity in all markets, 2.8 billion of the world’s 3.0 billion gamers will be playing on a mobile device this year. This is compared to 1.4 billion on PC and 0.9 billion on console.
There’s understandably a lot of crossover here as more consumers than ever before are playing across multiple segments. This is driven in part by the ongoing trend of platform agnosticism (blurring of lines between platforms), which in turn is driven by crossplay.

It’s not just the total number of players expected to grow in the coming years. The market is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of +8.7% to reach $218.7 billion by 2024.

Newzoo’s full report also goes into more interesting data such as the growth of the Virtual Reality market, which brought in total revenue of $816 million, and the rise in the metaverse trend. You can view the report in full by going to the top Official website of Newzoo.
