The yet-to-be-announced Dead Space remake will use the original as a strong foundation, but it won’t stop at a simple remake, according to a new report.
Posted in a new report on gamesbeat, Jeff Grubb revealed that this undisclosed remake will be similar in style to the Resident Evil 2 remake, using the original game as a strong foundation, but with modern visuals and new mechanics inspired by later installments in the series.
For its Dead Space game, Motive takes notes from Capcom’s recent Resident Evil remakes. Like Resident Evil 2 Remake, expect the next Dead Space to use the original game as a strong foundation. But it should also have modern visuals. And it will likely deliver new gameplay mechanics inspired by other entries in the franchise.
Jeff Grubb also speculates that the success of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order brought the Dead Space series’ revival as it showed EA that single-player games still have large audiences, helping the process that began with the poor sales of Mirror’s Edge catalytic converter.
EA also probably got excited about the idea of producing single-player adventures again after the success of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. The publisher has made statements in the recent past about shifting its focus to live-service games. And that was part of a conscious decision to invest less in single player experiences after poor results for Mirror’s Edge Catalyst.
Developer DICE created Mirror’s Edge Catalyst, and that game came and went for EA. The following year, DICE released Star Wars: Battlefront II, which was even more of a disaster at launch. And yet, as a service, DICE was able to make that game a success over time.
The Dead Space remake has not yet been announced. We’ll keep you updated on the game as more comes in, so stay tuned for the latest.
