Zack Snyder re-teams with Netflix for an all-new intergalactic adventure. Snyder’s next project will be an epic sci-fi fantasy titled Rebel Moon.

The Hollywood Report broke today that the filmmaker will co-write, produce and direct Rebel Moon for Netflix. Snyder is co-writing the script with Shay Hatten and Kurt Johnstad. Snyder and Johnstad get the story on credit.

In front of Rebel Moon, Snyder draws from iconic filmmaker Akira Kurosawa. He will also be a Star Wars-like story, a kind of movie the filmmaker has reportedly wanted to make for a while.

“This is me growing up as an Akira Kurosawa fan, a Star Wars fan,” Snyder told The Hollywood Reporter. “It’s my love for sci-fi and a huge adventure. I hope this also becomes a huge IP and a universe that can be built.”

According to THR, the story for Rebel Moon is set in motion when a peaceful colony on the edge of the galaxy is threatened by the armies of a tyrannical regent named Balisarius. Desperate humans send a young woman with a mysterious past in search of warriors from neighboring planets to help them take a stand.”
