Kojima Productions Founder Hideo Kojima recently shared his thoughts on the name of Death Stranding PlayStation 5 version.
The revelation of the Director’s Cut wasn’t much of a surprise to those who have delved into Reddit and its rumored subreddits, but it shocked most fans. Some were confused as to why it was called that.
Some gamers pointed out that Director’s Cut didn’t make sense because the game was something new and Kojima actually released a completely original title without any cut content. In fact, it shouldn’t have been called a Director’s Cut at all and should be something else, as this new content is new stuff that wasn’t in the original.
Kojima also shares the same idea, according to his latest Twitter messages on his official account. In fact, he wants a different subtitle for it instead of Director’s Cut.
A director’s cut in a film is an additional edit of a shortened version that was either reluctantly released because the director did not have the right to edit the film, or because the running time had to be shortened
In the game, it is not what was cut, but what was additionally produced that was recorded. Delector’s (he meant to say Director’s) Plus? So in my opinion I don’t like to call “Director’s Cut”.
Director’s Plus indeed because it is new content. No word on who actually came up with it as Director’s Cut, but other titles have followed suit, such as Sucker Punch’s Ghost or Tsushima: Director’s Cut. An expansion is coming, so why call it Director’s Cut anyway? Kojima and the rest of us are totally confused.
Death Stranding: Director’s Cut launches exclusively for PlayStation 5 on September 24, 2021.
