Anna Kendrick headlines psychological thriller Alice, Darling for Lionsgate

Anna Kendrick is kind of a genre chameleon; have navigated science fiction for Netflix’s stowaway, has been a veteran of musical comedy thanks to the Pitch Perfect trilogy, and was recently cast in serial killer quiz show drama Rodney and Cheryl, she’s now signed on to headline Lionsgate’s psychological thriller Alice dear for the first feature film director Mary Nighy.

By deadline Kendrick joins Loki‘s Wunmi Mosaku and The man in the high castle‘s Kaniehtiio Horn in the film, which focuses on Kendrick’s Alice, who behaves strangely and keeps secrets about her mercurial boyfriend (Charlie Carrick) from her two best friends. When the three friends head out of town with a girl, all the secrets are revealed when a local girl goes missing and Alice’s friend arrives unannounced.

In a statement, Nighty, who has acted in BBC Drama ghosts, as well as Sofia Coppola’s Maria Antoinette, said: “Alice, Darling is a subtle, nuanced tale of coercion and control. As a director, I couldn’t ask for a better cast of talented actors and creatives to bring this important story to life. The chemistry between Anna Kendrick, Wunmi Mosaku and Kaniehtiio Horn as the three friends is a joy to watch.”

Kendrick has scored big with Lionsgate before, with Paul Feig’s similar twisted friendship story, A simple favor, grossed nearly $100 million in 2018. Production is currently underway in Canada.
