According to an Instagram post from Halle Bailey, who will play the titular character Ariel, Disney’s upcoming live-action remake of The little Mermaid packed production.
The little Mermaid remake originally started production in 2020, but due to the pandemic, the film was halted until it was confirmed in April that shooting would begin in the summer on the Italian island of Sardinia, following a stay at Pinewood Studios in London.
While the film will feature many of Alan Menken and Howard Ashman’s classic songs from the original 1989 film, Menken previously revealed that the remake will feature “four new songs” in collaboration with moana composer Lin-Manuel Miranda.
The little Mermaid is directed by Rob Marshall (Mary Poppins returns) from a script by David Magee (Finding Neverland) and plays Halle Bailey (Grown-ish) as Ariel, Jonah Hauer-King (petite women) as Prince Eric, Melissa McCarthy (Can you ever forgive me?) as Ursula, Awkwafina (Crazy Rich Asians) as Scuttle, Jacob Tremblay (The Predator) as Bone, Daveed Diggs (blind spotting) as Sebastian and Javier Bardem (Everyone knows) as King Triton.
