Gamescom 2021 Publisher List Revealed and Some Big Names Missing

Recent articles

Gamescom 2021 is coming next month (in all-digital form) and the lineup of video game publishers that will participate in the event has been revealed. It’s a pretty solid list, although there are certainly some notable omissions. You can check out the lineup for yourself below.

  • 505 games
  • Activity
  • Aerosoft
  • Collect entertainment
  • Astragon entertainment
  • Bandai Namco Entertainment
  • Bethesda Softworks
  • Electronic art
  • Head up
  • Indie Arena Stand
  • Koch Media
  • NExT Studios (Tencent Games)
  • Sega Europe
  • Team17
  • Thunderful Games
  • Ubisoft
  • wargaming
  • Xbox

So based on that list, it looks like Microsoft/Bethesda will be a big part of the show, as has been the case for the past few years. That said, unless something changes, it looks like some major publishers like Nintendo, Sony, Square Enix, and Capcom will be out of action. All those publishers have used Gamescom to make big announcements in the past, so their absence is a bit disappointing. That said, there are also a few companies that didn’t actually attend this year’s E3 that will be attending Gamescom, such as Activision. Gamescom organizers also promise a wide range of independent publishers and developers will show their wares.

The aforementioned companies will be joined by 80 curated top indie titles, which will be showcased in large, virtual booths in the Indie Arena Booth Online (“IAB Online” for short), which is now integrated into gamescom. The concrete line-up of IAB Online will be announced at the end of July. In addition, more than 40 other indie titles are featured in IAB Online’s “Arcade Village”.

Gamescom 2021 will run from August 25-29 and Geoff Keighley will kick off again with an Opening Night Live show. What do you think? What do you hope will be revealed at this year’s Gamescom?
